Junior DEFRA minister Churchill resigns

Jo Churchill, a junior DEFRA minister , resigned yesterday ( 6th July ) in protest against Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Ms Churchill wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying that: “As a Defra minister, seeking solutions to climate adaptation and food security has been a similar honour. I strongly believe our farmers, producers and researchers can deliver us the answers.

She said on Twitter that:"Recent events have shown integrity, competence, and judgment are all essential to the role of Prime Minister, while a jocular self-serving approach is bound to have its limitations."

The MP for Bury St Edmunds said that: "the country and party deserve better".

She held the post of parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
