Inaugural Women in Dairy Conference next month

All women working in dairying will have the opportunity to connect, share and be inspired at the inaugural Women in Dairy conference to be staged at Sixways Stadium, Worcester on Wednesday 9 September.

AHDB Dairy board chairman, Gwyn Jones will scope out women’s role in dairy; Nuffield scholar, Tanya Robbins will explore just how innovative women are in today’s agriculture, whilst Wisconsin based Genus ABS chief operating officer, Saskia Korink will discuss working in the global dairy sector.

Closer to home, livestock scientist, Miriam Parker will bring delegates to understand how to see the world through the eyes of cattle whilst Di Wastenage who farms in Devon with her husband, Peter will discuss her role in the practical operations of their 645ha farm carrying 1,090 cows across four units.

There will also be an opportunity to find out more about Women in Dairy, the national platform for networking and knowledge transfer recently launched by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers and Promar International a Genus plc company, and supported by AHDB Dairy.

“This new network which is designed to bring together all women working in the dairy industry has three clearly defined objectives - to connect, share and inspire, and generate camaraderie for all women working within the sector,” says RABDF national co-ordinator, Emily Egan. “Those three objectives will be reflected in the conference, our first major event to which we are looking forward to bringing together and welcoming delegates from throughout the UK and from across the sector whether they are partners in the business or farming in their own right, calf rearers, students, vets or from the supply trade. Among them will be members of the 10 newly established Women in Dairy regional groups together with those who would like to explore joining or helping to establish a new group.”
