Hypnos to use 100% traceable British Wool from Red Tractor approved British farms

Hypnos has taken the next step in its commitment to sustainability by partnering with Red Tractor Food and Farming standards in an industry first that has seen the brand create the pioneering Origins Collection. This range of mattresses uses the most responsibly sourced materials possible, including 100% British wool that’s traceable right back to Red Tractor assured farms.

With health and wellbeing, and the demand for safe, responsibly-made products high on the agenda for consumers, the Origins Collection features two ranges, the Wool Origins range of mattresses, made using traceable wool, and the Cotton Origins range, which uses sustainably sourced cotton as its principle fillings. This means homeowners can rest safe in the knowledge that the collection provides a product that is not only supremely comfortable, but completely transparent and ethical too.

In addition to sustainable design, comfort has been placed at the heart of the collection and each mattress boasts the ultimate in hand tailoring and unparalleled border edge support thanks to an exclusive pocket spring system and generous layers of natural, traceable fillings to encourage a healthy sleep experience.

Indeed, the luxury seasonal turn Wool Origins range has as much as eight sheep fleeces (16kg) of Red Tractor assured 100% British wool in a 150cm mattress. In addition, the Cotton Origins no-turn range contains assured wool from Red Tractor farms and can have as much as 4.5kg of sustainably sourced cotton within it.

The Origins collection is also the first to feature a new and exclusive British-made pocket spring system that offers unparalleled border edge support. The normally vulnerable edge of the bed is supported by three rows of a higher tension spring, a flexible frame, and several rows of genuine hand side-stitching to create the ultimate in additional mattress support for the consumer.

Furthermore, the range also contains a responsibly sourced unbleached cotton and viscose sleep surface, which safely and naturally meets all furniture and safety fire regulations without the need for synthetic flame-retardants.

This new, innovative collection of mattresses is just the latest step in Hypnos’ sustainable journey, with its products having been free from foam for over ten years, made to be 100% recyclable and using sustainable materials to help reduce waste and carbon emissions.

The story of Hypnos’ wool

Hypnos has been on an extensive wool sourcing journey, which started with the company being one of the first supporters of the global initiative for The Campaign for Wool.  With a longstanding drive to ethically source its materials, the company has always pushed to understand where its wool is coming from, if it’s been grown responsibly on land that’s well managed, and with animals that are looked after.

This ambition led to the first-of-its-kind initiative with Red Tractor, the UK’s biggest farm and food standards scheme, which now provides Hypnos and its customers with a recognisable industry standard that’s understood and valued, and by which farmers can be benchmarked and paid a premium price for. In fact, Hypnos has committed to buy wool from selected Red Tractor Assured British farmers at a fair price so that the farmers can better understand their revenues and invest in a more sustainable and reliable future.

Richard Naylor, Sustainable Development Director at Hypnos, said: “We are incredibly excited to share our vision for comfort and integrity through our new Origins Collection as we once again push the boundaries of innovation to meet the demand for healthy and natural sleep.

“The industry-first expert partnership behind the collections mean we have been able to create a completely new level of sustainability and importantly, traceability, which we feel is lacking within the industry. With this new collection, British Red Tractor assured farms are regularly audited to ensure high levels of animal welfare and land management.  Every part of the supply chain, including Hypnos, from the farm onwards is robustly audited, from the collection, the washing, and the combing of the wool, to going into a carefully handcrafted Hypnos mattress.

“No company has done more than Hypnos to champion these environmental issues over the last few years. This latest collection is part of our ongoing commitment to the wider environment and to leading the way in responsible, comfort-based innovations, pushing the boundaries of design wherever we can.  We want everyone to wake up on a Hypnos bed and feel good for all the right reasons.”
