Hurricane Katia heads for Nothern Ireland and UK - Update

Hurricane Katia is moving across the Atlantic, heading for the UK. Currently the storm lies just south of Newfoundland, but it is expected to move towards northwestern parts of the UK through the course of this weekend, arriving some time on Monday morning.

While it remains too early to give an accurate forecast, farmers, especially in coastal regions in the North and in Western Scotland, should be prepared for a potential spell of extremely wet, windy weather.

The Met Office has issued a "yellow" alert , advising people to be aware of the risk of a "high impact" weather system. Katia would be the first hurricane to hit the UK since August 1986 when Hurricane Charley brought torrential rain to Wales and parts of central and Northern England.
