Homeward Bound: Sheepdog travels 240 miles home to Wales

A sheepdog has completed his own reenactment of the Disney film Homeward Bound by returning to the Welsh farm of his birth after being sent to work on a new farm in Cumbria.

The 240 mile journey from his new home in Cockermouth to the Mid-Wales  farm of his birth took four-year old Pero 12 days to complete. He disappeared whilst herding sheep after one month in the North-West, arriving in Wales on 8th April.

Shan James, of the farm in Penrhyncoch where Pero was raised, told the BBC “We'd been told that Pero had disappeared, and was nowhere to be seen… and even though he has a microchip no-one's been in touch either to say that they've found him.

"It's a total mystery as to how Pero has managed to find his way back to us. We know that dogs can find their way home, but 240 miles is a long way to travel.”

Following his incredible journey, the Jameses have decided to keep Pero in Mid-Wales. They said Pero didn’t appear to be hungry when he turned up in Wales, and so suppose that he managed to find food and possibly shelter along the way. The Jameses are trying to piece together just how he made the journey from Cumbria to Penrhyncoch.
