Growing winter wheats for the market in 2014
Plant breeders Limagrain UK have produced a brand new guide entitled Growing for the market for its leading winter wheat varieties for 2014.
“In the coming months cereal growers are going to be faced with many important decisions with regards to the growing and marketing of their crops and these decisions will have to be made in the context of significant price volatility, rising input costs and the usual weather challenges, “ says Lee Robinson, director of sales and marketing for Limagrain UK.
“However at the same time new marketing opportunities are emerging and existing ones are demanding higher standards, and it is important for growers to be in a position to capitalise on these.”
“To do this, we recognise how critical it is to have access to information on all the latest varieties and to understand the range of opportunities different varieties offer in terms of performance on farm balanced with viable marketing options.”
This wheat Guide intends to make this process as simple and straightforward as possible. Each variety is listed by its NABIM group classification, supported by comments from Limagrain’s own breeder and farmer trials.
The Guide also carries a comparison table of the leading Limagrain wheat varieties in each sector detailing the HGCA regional yield data, quality parameters, yield and agronomic information, as well as the varietal suitability for a particular rotational slot.
“it is important to understand that this Growing for Market guide will not replace the highly valued and informative husbandry guides that we produce for our market leading varieties – but that they offer an additional source of information for growers,” he adds.
The Growing for Market Guides are available to download or order from the website www.limagrain.co.uk, or contact Laura Davey on 01472 370151.
