Golden Hooves and BV Dairy win 12 medals at British & Irish Cheese Awards

Farmer-owned dairy co-operative, First Milk, has won 12 medals at the British & Irish Cheese Awards, across both its Golden Hooves and BV Dairy brands.

Having recently marked the one-year anniversary of its acquisition of BV Dairy, the regenerative co-op is celebrating a clean sweep of accolades for Golden Hooves' range of regeneratively farmed cheeses, while BV Dairy has come away with an impressive haul of awards from its first appearance at the competition.
Representing a reliable and trustworthy source of high quality and sustainable dairy, across retail, foodservice and manufacturing, the First Milk family is here to prove that there's no need to compromise between taste and ethical credentials. To celebrate their coming together, BV Dairy recently planted 365 trees at First Milk member farm, Woodhouse Farm in Wiltshire, to represent its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Following a rigorous days' judging, the panel gave medals to every product entered by First Milk, including Golden Hooves' entire range of cheeses, which are made using milk from farms that are pioneering extensive research-led regenerative programmes. This included Silver awards for its Mature Cheddar, Vintage Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar and Red Leicester, while Double Gloucester also earned a Bronze award.
Dorset-based BV Dairy  came away with Gold medals for its Clotted Cream, Stirred Greek Style Yogurt, 4% Full Fat Natural Yogurt, 8% Fat Fromage Frais, American Style Reduced Fat Soft Cheese, and American Style Full Fat Soft Cheese, which was also named Best Fresh in Class, while its 3% Fat Natural Yogurt secured a Bronze medal. Made with milk from First Milk's regenerative farms, as well as from BV Dairy's group of Red Tractor Farm Assured farms, these products are used by some of the finest chefs and best known brands in the country.
While BV Dairy farms are just beginning their regenerative journey with First Milk, Golden Hooves is consistently earning plaudits for taste and quality to sit alongside its environmental and social credentials, including the brand's recent successes with the Big Food Redesign Challenge. Following its work with the Big Food Redesign Challenge, which was created to redesign food to allow nature to thrive, Golden Hooves now has products on sale in selected Waitrose stores. Other stockists including Fortnum & Mason, Abel & Cole, and many independent retailers across the UK.
Leona McDonald, director of BV Dairy and Golden Hooves, commented: "Outstanding taste and quality are so important to our regenerative mission, and these awards go to show what can be achieved when exceptional cheesemaking and dairy production work hand-in-hand with ethical and sustainable goals. In the space of just one year, we've made huge strides. Golden Hooves has gone from only having a Mature and Vintage Cheddar in our range, to now having five cheeses all now with prestigious medals to their names – and BV Dairy is working regenerative practices into everyday farm life, while making products good enough to clean up at the Awards! We're just getting started, but these medals are a huge boost as we work towards getting regenerative dairy into every home."
Golden Hooves' full range of regeneratively farmed cheeses are available for retail in 200g pre-packs and 2.5kg deli blocks, while its Crackers are available in 80g packs. Stockists can request pricing information by emailing info@goldenhooves.co.uk.
