Global economics in spotlight at AHDB conference

Global economics are back in the spotlight this year at AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds’ Grain Market Outlook Conference, on Wednesday 14 October 2015.

In the context of economic developments of the last twelve months across the world, speaker Hamish Smith from Capital Economics will give a global macroeconomic outlook and implications for arable commodities.

Jack Watts, AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Lead Analyst, said: “Hamish is a macroeconomist with a commodities background, and so is a rare commodity himself. At the conference he will take us through the economic environment and the impact of changing policies and politics on agriculture, from China to Russia, and monetary policy in the US.”

Hamish Smith specialises in agricultural commodities at Capital Economics. He was previously a senior economic advisor at RBS and has also worked in international trade with the World Trade Organisation and New Zealand government. Hamish holds a Master’s degree in economics from Massey University, New Zealand.
