Future of livestock farming in the spotlight
The NFU has said it is looking to inspire the next generation of livestock farmers and kick start a debate on the future challenges and exciting opportunities facing the sector.
More than 100 young producers will be coming together for a special conference at the NFU next Monday (December 10) to discuss a range of farming issues including production, markets, and business and technical developments in beef and sheep.
Speakers for the event include Head of Agriculture at HSBC, Allan Wilkinson, Professor David Hughes, Emeritus Professor of Food Marketing, Imperial College London, and former Farmers Weekly Farmer of the Year winner Adrian Ivory.
NFU livestock board chairman Charles Sercombe said: “It’s absolutely essential that we have a vibrant and positive industry with young people at the heart of it. That’s why we’re having this conference – to get more young producers motivated, inspired and enthusiastic and more importantly, talking to each other about the shape of the livestock industry in the future.
“There is an excellent line-up of key-note speakers and we’ve had a fantastic response with more than 100 people booked in so far. I really believe it will be a successful and enjoyable day and I look forward to meeting the young people who will drive our industry forward in the decades to come.”
