FURTHER DETAILS REVEALED AHEAD OF LINCOLNSHIRE FARMING CONFERENCE 2023
LINCOLNSHIRE SHOWGROUND and the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society have unveiled more information about their exciting plans for this year’s Lincolnshire Farming Conference, which is set to take place on Thursday 9 February.
This year’s event has the theme, Healthy soils, Healthy minds and will feature talks from a number of captivating speakers from the agricultural world, as well as case studies, and one-to-one sessions with industry experts.
The topic of soil health has been a key talking point in recent years with Landcrop data revealing that 97% of UK soils are below the required levels of sulphur, 42% of grassland soils, especially those used for silage, are potassium deficient, and 32% have lower than the required levels of phosphate needed to thrive.
In addition, 17% of UK soils are within the optimal pH range, a figure which can have an effect on nutrients in the crops and in turn impact crop yield.
The event will commence with topical workshops sessions, followed by a full conference programme with demonstrations and Q&A sessions. There will also be a number of exhibitors for delegates to visit and network with.
Among the speakers at the conference will be George Sly, a Lincolnshire farmer with a 300-hectare family farm. He’s also an agronomist and owner of Horizon Agricultural Machinery, which produces innovative agricultural machinery, with the aim of facilitating regenerative and conservation-friendly farming.
Meanwhile, Farmers Weekly columnist, Will Evans, will be sharing his insights into the current farming climate. A farmer of beef cattle, arable crops and a free-range egg unit, he’s also an Oxford Farming Conference chairman and a Rock & Roll Farming podcast host.
National Farmers’ Union vice president David Exwood will also be taking the stage to share his thoughts. David has been the vice president since February 2022, and also farms over 1,200 tenanted hectares in West Sussex.
Kelly Hewson-Fisher, chair of the Lincolnshire Farming Conference, said: “After being unable to host the Lincolnshire Farming Conference for two years due to Covid-19, we’re thrilled that the event is able to return with a captivating line-up of speakers.
“During the event, attendees will be able to hear for a selection of key names in the industry which in addition to George Sly, Will Evans and David Exwood also includes a number of Lincolnshire farmers as well as the managing director of Saviour Associates, a company that provides farmers, growers and agribusiness clients access to unbiased advice, coaching and mentoring. We’re also excited to be welcoming Rob Shepherd, the chairman of the Allenford Farmer Cluster Group, which was formed by farmers in the Avon catchment.
“With even more industry experts set to share their insights over the course of the day, we look forward to hearing more about their inside knowledge, most especially surrounding this year’s event theme of Healthy soils, Healthy mind. This is a particularly important and topical theme given that healthy soil is integral for a range of societal, economic and environmental benefits, including food production.”
This year’s event sponsors include Omex, University of Lincoln, Woldmarsh, Streets, Shakespeare Martineau, Anglian Water, Dallas Scott Davey, CLAAS, Brown & Co JH Walter.
She added: “With the conference just around the corner, we can’t wait to bring the farming community together at what is set to be fantastic day.”
Tickets cost £15 for adults, £6 for students and are free of charge to members of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society. All tickets also include complementary lunch.
