Fungicide response this year

Provisional HGCA results

Wheat yields in trials this year have been the highest for years. The provisional results give a control yield of treated grain at 11.68 up nearly 2 tonnes/ha on last years control yield and the highest yields in the last five years.

The response to fungicdes has been exceptional this year with the average yield response at the 4 trials where both untreated and treated plots were grown is currently 4.5 T/ha. Even at today's abissmal prices of £120/ton that is equivalent to £540/ha increase in revenue. The average treated yield across all 45 varieties grown on these sites was just over 12 T/ha whilst the untreated yield was 7.5 T/ha. This is a 60% yield increase across all varieties at these sites.

Gallant, KWS Kielder, Solstice, Panacea and KWS Cashel all doubled their yield when treated. Cougar was the least responsive giving a 23% yield response to fungicides in these trials.

Looking just at the treated plots, there are currently twelve trial sites with yield results showing a control mean of 11.68 T/ha up 1.67 T/ha on the 4 year mean. This year of the main stream varieties JB Diego, Grafton, Panorama and KWS Santiago are all doing well with Group 1 newcomer Skyfall not far behind.
