French Grain Producers Organisation “Still wary†of prices
Nicolas Jaquet, president of the French OGM (Grain Producers Organisation), has dismissed recent speculation over grain prices, stating, “We must stop saying that cereal prices are raised, we have returned to the same levels as 1987.” image expired
However, M Jaquet went on to warn the assembled union members, “We remain wary, as no one can be certain that prices will still be at these levels in a year’s time.” He gave this as a reason for the union to “totally oppose” the growers-livestock breeders partnership currently under consideration. The partnership proposes to remove intermediaries between the two agricultural sectors, thereby facilitating exchange.
To regulate the markets, the CR union instead suggests developing cereal production in areas that are currently loss-making, giving North Africa as an example, and balancing EU markets by producing more soya.
