French farmers bring Paris to standstill
Thousands of protesting farmers in more than 1,500 tractors bought central Paris to a standstill on Thursday. After protests against falling prices caused widespread disruption in July (with barricades erected across motorways leading to major cities and tourist attractions, fires outside supermarkets, government offices and processing companies and livestock animals released into shops), farmers gathered in the French capital this week to demand more government aid for farmers caught up in the crisis.
