Fears high winds may hamper spraying

There are concerns that high winds affecting parts of England and Scotland could hamper spraying. The winds, the latest severe conditions in what has been a year of adverse and changeable weather, could put farmers even further behind schedule in some cases.image expired

A Met Office spokesperson told Farming Online that conditions were “exceptionally windy for the time of year,” and advised that farmers “be aware.” However, he did reveal that conditions may ease as early as Monday evening (23rd May).

The Met Office has issued a series of weather warnings, covering Northern England, South West Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. A spokesperson said, “A period of exceptionally windy weather is expected to cross the northern half of the country during Monday. Wind gusts of 60 mph are expected widely with gusts of 70 mph probable across parts of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Some very exposed areas may see gusts as high as 80 mph. Winds will start to ease from the west by evening.”
