Farming by the facts: AHDB champions evidence at Groundswell 2025

Visitors to AHDB's big tipi at Groundswell 2025 can take part in a series of debates designed to put evidence at the heart of nature-based farming.

AHDB has put together a thought-provoking seminar programme to cement its place as a must-visit stand at the annual regenerative agriculture festival.

Visitors will also be able to pick up free resources, including the popular soil management pack.

The AHDB cross-sector team will also be on hand to talk about the theory and practice associated with regenerative farming systems.

Long John Slither – a giant interactive worm, who first appeared at the Cereals 2025 event – will also be on the stand to spark conversations about levy-investment priorities.

AHDB will host seminars on its stand each day, which will see farmers and the wider community discuss the importance of independent, data-driven solutions for nature-based farming.

Each AHDB seminar lasts about 30 minutes, with times and locations clearly displayed at key locations across the Groundswell site.

Information about all speakers is available on the Groundswell website: groundswellag.com

Henny Lowth, AHDB Senior Knowledge Transfer Manager, said: "The AHDB seminars are rooted in the spirit of Groundswell, with regenerative agriculture at their heart. True to what AHDB does best, we will put evidence at the forefront of the debate – because the best decisions for farming and nature are often based on a healthy mix of intuition and science."

The Groundswell (The Regenerative Agriculture Festival) will take place on the 2–3 July 2025 in Hertfordshire.

Day 1 sessions

Don't let weeds take the lead (11:30am)

Regenerative farming practices shift the weed management dynamic. With the first case of glyphosate resistance in a UK weed species (Italian rye-grass) recorded earlier this year, the need to proactively manage herbicide resistance risks has never been greater. This session will put the weed seedbank at the heart of integrated weed management, discuss effective control measures and highlight advances in technology. The stand will also feature interactive weed demonstrations.

Food First: The ultimate nature-based solution for sustainable farming (1:15pm)

This session will challenge conventional narratives and argue that natural capital 'investment' is not just an environmental nicety, but a business-critical farming strategy. Join the debate to determine whether natural capital markets genuinely build resilience or simply distract from the real threats to the long-term survival of UK agriculture.

Green food rebellion: How can farms feed values, not just bellies? (3:15pm)

Learn what consumers want from food and how much they really care about sustainability. This session will explore how understanding the consumer can shape on-farm decisions. It will investigate how management, genetics and innovation are driving sustainability, improving farming efficiency, and delivering high-quality, eco-conscious food to meet consumer expectations.

Seeding changes with the AgriLeader Circle (6:30pm)

The AHDB AgriLeader Circle will also return to Groundswell, which will see social-media-savvy farmers and changemakers livestream a one-hour conversation on how leadership can help carry the regenerative farming message beyond the event.

Elsewhere at the site, an AHDB-supported cover crop and herbal ley clinic (3:00pm at the Earthworm Arms) provides a refreshing alternative session, led by the Cover Crops Guide steering group. They will dig into species selection, establishment and grazing, and explore nutrient dynamics and biodiversity.

Day 2 sessions

From run off to resilience: managing nutrients for cleaner water (10:30am)

Farmers are under pressure to deliver food and protect natural resources, including our waterways. With many farms in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs), this session will look at the practical steps to improve soil health and reduce nitrate and phosphate losses, with a focus on regenerative systems.

Trials and tribulations: getting more from on-farm trials (12:15pm)

This session will highlight the key steps in setting up impactful on-farm trials. It will cover field selection, trial layouts, the variables to measure and how to compare results of different treatments. Example trials from the AHDB Strategic Farms will be discussed.

The AHDB stand is on the BASIS CPD Knowledge Trail.
