Next month the European Commission will present its plans to reform the EU's complex and costly system of farm subsidies. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) swallows up more than 40% of the European Union's budget.

Farmers across Europe are worried the economic downturn means they may be next in line to be squeezed.
