Farmers to welcome the public on Open Farm Sunday next month

Hundreds of farms all over the country will open their gates for the Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF) Open Farm Sunday 2018 on the 10th June.

As the farming industry’s annual open day, it offers a fantastic chance for people to discover real farming at first hand and see for themselves how their food (and much more besides) is produced. It is also a great way for farmers to shine a light on what they deliver and why supporting British farming matters.

In 2017 the public showed its support for British farming en masse with over a quarter of a million people visiting farms. One in five visitors had never been on a farm before.

Educating consumers of all ages about where their food comes from is vital to help people understand how essential our industry is. Furthermore a direct, face to face approach can provide the opportunity to showcase all the passion, commitment and enthusiasm for farming and potentially inspire the next generation.

Annabel Shackleton, manager of the event, said: “From the wheat for our bread and cereals, and the potatoes and pork for our sausage and mash, through to crops for fuel, clothes and even cosmetics, it all begins on a farm.

"Farmers play a vital part in our daily lives and LEAF Open Farm Sunday is your chance to be part of The Great British Farm Day and show your support for British farmers and farming.”
