Farmers praised for role in cirl bunting recovery


A recent and dramatic rise in numbers of cirl bunting has been put down to a 25-year recovery project, run between the RSPB and local farmers, which appears to be paying off. 25 years ago there were just over 100 breeding pairs of cirl buntings left in the country, but now, thanks to the efforts of wildlife-friendly farmers, there are ten times that number.
