Farmers invited to learn more about low-carbon beef at on-farm event

Farmers, producers and the wider food industry are invited behind the gate to learn more about the future of sustainable beef farming and low-carbon meat production at the upcoming on farm event, 'Unveiling the future of low-carbon beef farming'.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 20 February at the Oxford FAI Farm, and will be showcasing the groundbreaking progress of 'bigger steps for smaller footprints towards climate-positive beef', funded by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs' (DEFRA) Farming Innovation Programme.

The project focuses on the integration of dairy cross store cattle into a low-carbon pasture-fed system, with various aspects reviewed, including performance, health, financial viability, soil health, and biodiversity. The knowledge gained from this project will contribute significantly to the broader sustainability goals of the agriculture sector and the farm to fork food chain.

Experts and project leaders from AHDB, Breedr, Dunbia and FAI Farms will be there to share key insights, findings and implications of different farming practices, followed by a Q&A session, giving everyone the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and participate in an open discussion with farmers, industry and project collaborators.

The event will also include on-site demonstrations, allowing attendees to witness firsthand the modern practices being implemented at FAI Farms to achieve low-carbon and pasture-fed goals.

Emma Steele, Beef and Lamb Knowledge Exchange Manager at AHDB, said: "This event is a chance for attendees to be at the forefront of industry advancements, gain valuable knowledge and network with like-minded individuals who share a passion for sustainable and efficient farming practices."

This collaborative initiative is at the forefront of exploring innovative solutions for a low-carbon, pasture-fed system, and is part of Defra's Farming Innovation Programme delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.
