Farmers Guardian Team to Take on 24-Hour Countryside Challenge in Support of #farm24 Charities
The team behind Britain's biggest digital farming campaign, 24 Hours in Farming (#farm24), will lace up their walking boots this summer and embark on a gruelling 24-hour, 43-mile charity walk across the Cotswolds to raise funds for Farms for City Children and Len's Light.
Taking place on Tuesday, July 7, the challenge will see members of the Farmers Guardian team walk through some of Britain's most iconic countryside, beginning at Diddly Squat Farm Shop, travelling via Cotswold Farm Park and finishing at The Farmer's Dog.
The walk forms a major part of this year's #farm24 campaign, which is focused on highlighting how the UK's agricultural community are more than farmers, acting as custodians of over 70% of this countries landscape, providing beautiful spaces for the public to enjoy over the summer months. During the walk, the team will be "Showcasing the Best of the British Countryside" and encouraging the next generation to reconnect with food, farming and nature.
Throughout the route, #farm24 ambassadors and supporters will join the team at various stages, helping to raise awareness of the campaign and the charities it supports.
#farm24, which returns on July 30 2026, has always been about opening the farm gate and showing the public what really happens in British agriculture. This year, however, the campaign is taking that message a step further by encouraging people to experience the countryside for themselves.
With children spending less time outdoors than ever before, mental wellbeing challenges on the rise and understanding of food and farming declining, the campaign aims to highlight the vital role Britain's countryside plays in supporting healthier, happier communities.
The charity walk is designed to do exactly that, encouraging people to get outside, explore public footpaths, reconnect with nature and appreciate the landscapes cared for by farmers across the country.
The walk will also raise funds for Farms for City Children and one of Len's Light's chosen charities, Yellow Wellies. Farms for City Children has helped thousands of young people experience life on a working farm, giving them a greater understanding of food production, the natural world and rural life. Len's Light is a fundraising body established in memory of Len Eadon that works to support mental health awareness within rural communities and raise money for charities including, Yellow Wellies, The Farming Community Network and Papyrus.
Emily Ashworth, Digital Editor, Farmers Guardian, said:
"Too often, farming is only talked about in terms of the challenges it faces. This year's #Farm24 campaign is about changing that conversation and demonstrating that farming is also part of the solution."
"Whether it's helping children spend more time outdoors, supporting better mental and physical health, providing nutritious food, caring for the environment or creating thriving rural communities, farming has a positive role to play in some of the biggest issues facing society today."
"This walk is about bringing that message to life. By getting out into the countryside, reconnecting with nature and raising money for two incredible charities, we're demonstrating first-hand the benefits that farming and the countryside can offer us all."
The challenge will be documented across social media as part of the build-up to 24 Hours in Farming, with supporters encouraged to follow the journey, donate to the fundraising effort and share their own countryside walks using #farm24.
This year's campaign will continue throughout the summer with school visits, ambassador activities, countryside experiences and public engagement initiatives, all leading up to the 24-hour social media celebration on July 30.
