Farm Machinery Sale Spans the Centuries

Tractors vintage and new, cultivators, a combine and the rare straw threshing machine are amongst the items being lined up for the auctioneer’s hammer.

Featuring more than the usual catalogue of tractors and tools, this is the first time that Auctioneer and Partner Tom Oates of George F. White has been asked to sell a Threshing Machine. He believes that the sale is also  a great opportunity for people to see and purchase machinery which provides an insight into the history of farming since Victorian times.

Pride of place for farmers or collectors will go to the contrasting 21st Century New Holland Electra Plus Combine Harvester or the 19th Century technology of the Russel and Hornsby Straw Thresher. Both have been lovingly maintained, both were designed to do the same job and both have been used this season.

The modern line up at the sale includes the New Holland TF78 Electra Plus Combine from 2002 with 24ft Header with 950 drum hours and 1100 engine hours, a 2010 JCB 310 and a 2008 New Holland T8040. Implements include a Vaderstaad 600F Rapid drill, a Kev PB 6F Vari Width Semi Mounted Plough and a Dowdeswell DP2 8F rev on land plough. Vintage equipment in the line up includes the Thresher, a Fordson Super Major from 1962 and a Steiger Panther 350 bhp (1979).

“The current owners, father and son team Richard and James Bullivant have a love for all kinds of machinery and it is down to their care that the items in the sale are in such excellent condition,” says Tom. “This will be a great occasion for enthusiasts, as well as farmers who are looking for well maintained machinery. There is an extensive range of items from tractors, loaders and balers to cultivation equipment and a mobile grain dryer. However, I am very much looking forward to selling the thresher which is still able to perform as the makers intended.”

The Dispersal Sale of Modern and Vintage Farm Machinery takes place at 11:00am on Saturday 8th of October 2011, at Moor Leazes Farm, Peth Lane, Burnhope, County Durham, DH7 0EG.
