Eustice to stay on at Defra

Farming minister and Brexit campaigner George Eustice has survived the reshuffle that accompanied Theresa May’s appointment as Prime Minister.

Eustice will remain at Defra under Secretary of State Andrea Leadsom, after the former leadership candidate took over the environment portfolio last week. Both Leadsom and Eustice backed the Leave camp in the run-up to June’s EU Referendum.

Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey will replace Rory Stewart, who has moved to the Department for International Development. Though Dr Coffey has been appointed parliamentary under secretary of state at Defra, it’s not yet certain whether she will inherit Rory Stewart’s ministerial Waste brief.

Dr Coffey previously served as deputy leader of the House of Commons.

Lord John Gardiner of Kimble will also remain on the Defra team.
