EU poll: April results
The results of Farming Online’s April poll of farmers’ views ahead of the June referendum on EU membership show a majority in favour of Britain leaving the union.
The overall results of the poll show 51% would like for Britain to leave the EU, 37% would prefer to remain, and 12% are still unsure, with the Referendum just two months away.
This compares to February’s poll, which showed 49% of respondents said they would opt for ‘Brexit’, whilst 34 said they would choose to remain part of the EU and 17% percent were still undecided. These earlier results also suggested a significant swing away from a ‘remain’ vote has taken place over the past year.
Broken down by sector, the April results appear to have evolved since our last analysis earlier this week. Whilst non-farmers appear to favour remaining part of the EU, all farming sectors seem to favour Brexit, though the majority amongst arable farmers appears to be smallest.
See below for a table of results. It’s worth noting that the sample size of horticulture growers was smaller than for other sectors.
The poll has now closed, but Farming Online will be running polls every month up until the referendum to gauge the views of the farming community and look at any changes taking place. Polls can be found on the home page and can be taken once per month.
