EU pig prices: steady market

The European mature pigs market has remained steady this week. The majority of quotations remain unchanged from last week's levels. However, according to German industry group ISN, there is little room for improvement as demand from third country importers has slowed.

Prices in Spain stayed constant for a second week, following a period of continuous increases. Only France saw dramatic price rises – quotations there increased by 5.6 percent on higher demand and short supply, though ISN suggested that this trend may be short-lived.

German producers are enduring a flat-spot, according to the industry body, though British quotations also rose last week. Even so, ISN said on Tuesday that "there probably isn't room for price increases [but] there is no risk of price reductions."
