EU pig prices: slight fluctuations

The week has seen a weakening of the mature pigs market in contrast to predictions made last week by German industry body ISN. Prices remained fixed in Germany, Denmark, Austria and Great Britain, and fell slightly in the Netherlands and Belgium.

In Spain, prices are falling for “seasonal reasons,” though the effects of the crisis are still being felt. Yet, Spain continues to rank first among the five major pig-keeping EU member countries in the European price structure.

In France the quotation rose by a corrected 3.3 cents, setting an optimistic tone for price development towards the end of the year. ISN said that, due to pressure from slaughter companies, a clear trend could not be forecast on Tuesday.
