EU pig prices: Positive trend for producers

The European mature pigs market has returned to stability, following upset in central Europe that saw German prices dip, but others remain comparatively stable. Brisk demand has led to sideways movement for most quotations and in Spain an expected seasonal price decline was staved off this week.

Although the situation is an improvement on last week, according to German trade body ISN, Germany remains out of line with the rest of Europe's major producers. Nevertheless, a price cut of 2 cents inflicted on German producers last week was reversed this week.

Prices rose by 2 cents in the Netherlands, where they had been amongst the lowest in Western Europe. The rise continues a gradual recovery seen over several weeks.

UK prices forged ahead, continuing a trend of marginal rises begun five weeks ago.
