Environmental Sustainability through Continuous Professional Development

Coventry University's Centre for Agroecology and Food Security (CAFS) are responsible for driving forwards the university's Sustainable Agriculture and Food Grand Challenge initiative. The aim of CAFS is to conduct critical, rigorous and relevant research which will contribute to the development of agricultural and food production practices, which are economically sound, socially just and promote long-term protection of natural resources.

With this goal in mind the centre is to deliver a series of distinct Continuous Professional Development courses which are aimed at helping those working in the agricultural sector to improve the sustainability of both policy and practice.

The first in the series of CPD courses, Water Security in the Landscape will take place over two days on the 7 and 8 November 2011 at Coventry University's conference centre. With high level national and international speakers the aim of this 2 day professional development course is to enable a better understanding of practical water security, flood and drought moderation in the landscape. The lead speaker is Australian Regenerative Landscape expert Darren Doherty.

The second CPD course in the series, "Carbon Farming – How to Do It!" will take place on the 9 November at Coventry University's conference centre. This unique one day professional development course is also being led by leading Regenerative Agriculture specialist Darren Doherty from Australia. Participants will learn the principles of innovative and ecological land management practices that both reduce fossil carbon use AND are high on carbon sequestration. The course is aimed at professionals in the agricultural and land management sectors, from government policy makers to farmers, researchers and service providers.
