Environmental Audit Committee report – comment from contributor Joe’s Booms/full report link
Today, the Environmental Audit Committee released its report 'The Role of Natural Capital in the UK's Green Economy', which includes analysis of the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), its opportunities, and its potential to generate £9.6bn in net benefits over the period 2021 to 2023.
Sharing below an embargoed quote from Oliver Lewis, CEO of BNG start-up Joe's Blooms, who gave evidence to the Committee in case helpful for your reporting:
"We welcome today's call from the Committee urging the Government to maintain full support for Biodiversity Net Gain. The policy is already delivering gains, with many developments across England going beyond the required 10% net gain uplift. BNG is a win-win for housebuilding and nature, unlocking large scale private investment in our natural environment and creating a truly sustainable housebuilding revolution."
