Environment secretary could be for the chop, following botched forest sell-offs

A number of sources have reported that David Cameron may be planning a reshuffle of his cabinet following today’s local elections, where Conservatives and Liberal Democrates are expected to fare poorly, and the Queen’s speech, which will set the new parliamentary agenda for the year.

This morning, the Daily Mail reported that the Prime Minister is supposedly planning a reform and that Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman, along with a number of other ministers, could be facing the axe if he goes ahead.

It has been speculated that followed the aborted plans to sell off swathes of national forest and continued high spending at Defra, Ms Spelman’s position is vulnerable. Furthermore, she is unpopular with hard right Tory backbenchers.

However, other sources have suggested Cameron could delay a reshuffle until after Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary embroiled in scandal over an alleged inappropriate connection to Newscorp, goes before the Levinson Enquiry.

Westminster would not comment on parliamentary reshuffles.
