End of an Era: BASF announces phaseout of its difenacoum range

BASF has announced the withdrawal of its difenacoum rodenticide range including historic and well-known Neosorexa® and Sorexa® D products later this year.

The leading pest control solutions manufacturer has made the decision not to support the difenacoum based products for re-authorisation due recent additions of effective and innovative rodenticides such as Storm Ultra and Selontra to their product portfolio.

As it offers a complementary range of rodenticides addressing the needs for fast, highly efficient, resistance-breaking and sustainable rodent control solutions, the manufacturer has decided not to continue with its oldest anticoagulant active in Difenacoum.

Laurence Barnard, Country Business Manager for BASF’s Professional & Specialty Solutions, said: “Going forward we will focus on further developing our offer around the most potent anticoagulant flocoumafen, and the highly effective alternative to anticoagulants, cholecalciferol.”

Products containing the second-generation, anticoagulant active substance difenacoum made by BASF will begin the phaseout throughout 2023. This includes products such as Neosorexa® Gold, Neosorexa® Gold Ratpacks, Neosorexa® Bait Blocks, and Sorexa® D.

Laurence Barnard, commented: “The Neosorexa and Sorexa D range have been an essential addition to many pest controllers tool boxes over the years, and the phase-out marks a milestone in the changing landscape of rodenticides.”

“We appreciate that many pest controllers may be disappointed to hear the news,  but I encourage them to make the most of the long phase-out period and get a last piece of history before they come off market.”

“Many of our distribution partners will be supporting customers by passing on a variety of offers on the Neosorexa and Sorexa D ranges, so loyal customers can take advantage of the long use-up period, while new users of the products can try how good they were before the products leave the market.”

The company will continue to invest in the research and development of alternative effective solutions, as well as work on raising awareness of the issues surrounding anticoagulant resistance within the industry.

Having introduced the first rodenticide on the market to contain the active cholecalciferol, BASF will continue to offer professional pest controllers a fast, effective solution to control rodents, with the award-winning, non-anticoagulant rodenticide, Selontra®.
