Elin Jones to lose position as Welsh Rural Affairs minister
11/05/11
After securing half of the 60 seats in the Welsh Assembly in last week's elections, Labour has announced that it will go it alone in forming an administration, despite its lack of an overall majority.
Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for Ceredigion, will therefore lose her post as Rural Affairs Minister, despite having retained her seat amidst fierce opposition to her support for a pilot badger cull in Wales’ Intensive Action Area, with a view to controlling bovine TB.
Labour’s decision to govern alone has cast doubt on the proposed badger cull, as it remains unclear how the proposals will be taken forward under Labour.
Labour leader Carwyn Jones announced that new cabinet ministers will be appointed later this week.
