Early harvest 2026 vs 2025: first five days compared

Notwithstanding the lack of moisture.

The opening five days of Harvest Results 2026 began at least a week earlier than in 2025, and the first submissions published cover four varieties: winter barleys KWS Tardis, LG Caravelle and SY Kingsbarn, plus the oilseed rape variety Abelia. All yields quoted are area-weighted and adjusted to standard moisture — 14% for cereals, 8% for oilseeds — while moisture percentages are as submitted.

Among the barleys, the early picture is mixed. KWS Tardis is off to a strong start, with an adjusted yield of 8.94 t/ha against 8.33 t/ha at the same stage last year — up 7.3% — and grain coming in drier too, at 12.7% moisture versus 13.6%. LG Caravelle is essentially level with its 2025 opening (7.71 vs 7.70 t/ha), though moisture is running notably higher at 13.6% against 11.8%. SY Kingsbarn bucks the trend, opening at 6.99 t/ha compared with 8.51 t/ha last year — down 17.9% — albeit with drier grain at 12.6%.

Abelia's two early oilseed rape entries averaged 3.98 t/ha adjusted, at a low 6.0% moisture, but with no Abelia submissions in the equivalent 2025 window there's no like-for-like comparison to draw.

As ever at this stage, these figures rest on a total of 3000ac submitted — so they should be read as early indicators.
