“Devastating Consequences” – NBA Responds to Climate Committee Targets
Farmers Fight Back on Climate Targets
Neil Shand, CEO of the National Beef Association (NBA), voices the organisation's strong concerns over the Climate Change Committee's new carbon budget for Scotland. The NBA warns that proposed cuts to livestock numbers threaten UK food security and reflect a worrying shift toward ideology over practical policy.
"The National Beef Association (NBA) is completely dismayed and disillusioned at the Climate Change Committee's new carbon budget for Scotland – and at the target to reduce livestock numbers by 26% by 2035.
How this ideology fits in with the UK's requirement to feed itself, remains utterly baffling, and it really is about time that someone held the Climate Change Committee to account.
We see governments in Scotland, London and Wales, pussyfooting their away around to try and achieve targets which will weaken UK food security at a time of geopolitical instability. The NBA calls on all politicians of all parties to stand up to this report for what it is, a piece of ideological nonsense, that will have devastating consequences for our already beleaguered livestock farmers across the UK."
