Deadline looming to complete annual sheep and goat inventory

The deadline is fast looming for livestock keepers in Wales to submit their annual sheep and goat inventory.

Completing and submitting the Annual Inventory of Sheep and Goats is a legal requirement and the form must be submitted by February 1 to avoid potential penalties.

The form can be completed and submitted online on the EID Cymru website (www.eidcymru.org) or by returning the paper form in the pre-paid envelope in the paperwork which should already have been received on the farm.

“It is important to record all the sheep that you own by CPH location as at January 1,” said Sarah Wedge of Davis Mead Property Consultants.

“The number declared must include all breeding ewes and rams, ram lambs, store and finished lambs, cull ewes and rams, goats and any other sheep. These numbers must also be recorded in the on-farm register.

“Failure to do so could result in a cross compliance breach and an increased chance of an inspection,” she said.

Once the form has been submitted keepers will receive a receipt to keep for record-keeping purposes.

“If you no longer keep sheep and goats and aren’t planning on keeping any in the next 12 months, you need to de-register as a keeper with APHA (0300 3038268),” Sarah added.
