Sheep producers will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about the benefits of using data on farm, at an RASE and Royal Agricultural University organised event on 25^th June 2014 at Manor Farm, Harnhill, Cirencester.

The Flock Science Seminar will see leading farmers, scientists and industry experts coming together to look at how the use of science, technology and ICT can improve efficiency and farm performance.

Dr Joanne Compton from Scottish Rural University College will open the day discussing ongoing research surround sheep genetics and where the industry is heading. Nuffield scholar and Romney sheep farmer, Rob Hodgkins will then demonstrate this research in practice, talking about the use of genomics in his flock.

Catherine Nakielny, who farms but is also an independent consultant will talk about using EID to monitor weight and growth rates as a key flock management tool.

David Barber from Berkshire Down Early Lamb will present quite a different view to lamb production as he artificially inseminates ewes with fresh semen. All lambs are produced off grain and he strongly advocates the advanced use of EID as a management tool.

After lunch, sheep producer and Nuffield scholar, John Yeoman will look at alternative grading systems for lamb carcases.

In the afternoon there will be the opportunity to attend workshops with Shearwell Data, Border Software and Stock Trace, as well as a chance to look around the stock at Manor Farm. There is also a butchery demonstration courtesy of Jesse Smith Butchery.
