British Farm Data Council appoints Communagator as its Certification Partner

The British Farm Data Council has appointed Communagator Ltd to implement and manage its new certification scheme for companies and organisations to demonstrate good farm data governance.

Professor Tina Barsby OBE, the Chair of the British Farm Data Council, said “This is a significant milestone in the work of the Council over the past 18 months. Having Communagator in place means we will soon be able to start certifying organisations that handle farm data.

“Farmers have told us they are concerned about how companies and organisations might use their data, while organisations have struggled to communicate their good practices to the market. This certification process in place will help build the trust and allow farmers to reap the benefits of data sharing, by working with organisations that have demonstrated their products comply with the principles of the scheme.

Julian Gairdner, managing director of Communagator Ltd, said “We are delighted to have been appointed to implement and manage the certification process for the British Farm Data Council. This is a critical development for the sector and we look forward to supporting the scheme and certifying organisations to work more collaboratively and transparently”.

The British Farm Data Council has recently incorporated as Farm Data Principles Ltd, an independent not-for-profit company, and is awaiting certification mark approval prior to formally launching the scheme.
