Brid Flu restrictions lifted in Yorkshire

Defra have announced that all restrictions following the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8 in ducks on premises in East Yorkshire on 16 November 2014 have now been lifted.

The 10km surveillance zone (SZ) was lifted at 00:01 on 21 December 2014 - full details are in the Avian Influenza declaration 21 December 2014 (PDF, 14.2KB, 1 page) . The 3km protection zone (PZ) around the infected premises had earlier been lifted on 12 December 2014.

The 6,000 ducks on the affected farm have been humanely culled and the premises cleansed and disinfected.

Investigations continue into the most likely source of the outbreak.

Poultry keepers should remain vigilant for signs of disease and maintain the highest levels of biosecurity at all times. If you have any concerns, seek prompt advice from your vet.
