Brazil's ag department ramping up exports

Brazil has opened a new market for chicks and genetic material. After the establishment of an International Zoosanitary Certificate with Malaysia last month, Brazil can begin exporting right away.

The Brazilian agriculture department has been courting a number of Asian countries, aiming to establish new export markets. Brazil already sells poultry genetic material to 50 countries in the Americas, Asia and Middle East, and in 2016, the agriculture department established new trading links for animal products and genetics with Cuba, India, Turkey, Ethiopia, Mexico and the United States.

The export drive is part of an ongoing plan to raise Brazil's share of the world agricultural market from 6.9% to 10% in five years. This comes as ministers in the UK, who are still hashing out the details of Brexit, have aired plans to drive up exports of the UK’s agricultural products and luxury foods.
