BovINE the European beef innovation network project continues to fuel the drive towards sustainability

Landmark resources, including the Catalogue of 477 On Farm Practice Abstracts, are now available to access and download direct from the project website for sending direct to key contacts, as well as re-uploading to all relevant repositories. Other resources directly available on the website are the Policy Brief, linking BovINE's knowledge to relevant strategies and initiatives, the full list of
Grass Roots Needs as contributed by farmers from nine EU states, as well as direct access to the Animations and Webinars produced by the project to supplement the Practice Abstracts.

The BovINE Knowledge Hub (BKH) houses all the Practice Abstracts validated and uploaded by partners and the project's nine Network Managers organised according to the four BovINE themes of Socioeconomic Resilience, Animal Health & Welfare, Environmental Sustainability and Production Efficiency & Meat Quality.

Professor Maeve Henchion, BovINE Project Co-ordinator, comments:

"The knowledge that BovINE has made available in user-friendly formats is based on innovations that have been applied in practice on beef farms across Europe and on solutions from research that have yet to be put into practice.
We've tested some of the research innovations on beef farms across Europe so it is now easier for farming communities to adopt them if they suit their own contexts. I and many BovINE colleagues are continuing to promote this validated and user-friendly material throughout 2023 and beyond across Europe.
With a significant amount of material produced in multiple languages backed up by audio-visual content, BovINE knowledge is ready for supporting a wide cross-section of European beef farmers on their road to sustainability."

Professor Henchion spoke by invitation about BovINE at the 9th International Beef Forum in Warsaw, Poland in early 2023, attended by the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Janusz Wojciechowski. The meeting was organised by BovINE's Polish partners and Poland's Network Manager, Jerzy Wierzbicki.

A key speaker at the Beef Forum as well as one of the organisers, Jerzy Wierzbicki explained that the current and future challenge of delivering sustainability across the beef sector required clear definitions of these terms to ensure that the sector can develop and deliver a consistent and sustainable model. Mr Wierzbicki continued:

"The dissemination of the knowledge available in the BovINE Knowledge Hub can help with the clarification of what sustainability means in practice. It is a veritable treasure trove of knowledge, information, good practices and innovative solutions to regulatory, market and consumer challenges as well as contributing to the development of policy approaches."

BovINE partners will be presenting during 2023 at national, European, specialist and international meetings addressing both farmers directly and policy players to continue the cascade of BovINE's knowledge embedded in the practice abstracts.
