Farming News - Bovine TB found at second Cumbria farm

Bovine TB found at second Cumbria farm

The find, at a farm near Penrith, was the result of tests carried out in a surveillance zone.

This was set up by the the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) following an outbreak at another farm in April.

The National Farmers Union said that while the new case was a "worry" for farmers, it was not unexpected given the amount of tests being carried out.

Further testing and tracing work is now under way to find out if the case is related to the original TB case, but results are not expected for a number of weeks.

Robert Craig, NFU Cumbria County Chairman, said: "My thoughts are with the farmer and his family as they come to terms with dealing with a breakdown of TB on their farm.

"It again demonstrates that farmers in the whole of the county need to remain vigilant if we are to stop the disease becoming established in the county."
