Bogus phonecall warning for borders farmers

Police in Selkirkshire and the Scottish Borders have urged vigilance after fraudsters claiming to be police officers attempted to con farmers out of money over the phone.

Over the weekend, officers told the local press that two farmers in the area had received bogus calls from people claiming to be police officers. The callers told farmers that they were from Police Scotland and were collecting for a charity to fight juvenile crime against agricultural workers.

Police Scotland confirmed that the calls are bogus on Saturday and urged farmers to be on the alert for potential scammers.
