Banks will be 'sympathetic' towards farmers hit by Schmallenberg

Lloyds TSB Agriculture and Bank of Scotland have claimed they will provide a sympathetic and supportive approach to customers affected by the Schmallenberg virus and is encouraging those finding themselves with difficulties to contact their local bank manager at an early stage.

“The increase in the number of confirmed cases of Schmallenberg virus will be causing anxiety and worry amongst many farmers,” said Gareth Oakley, Agriculture Director for Lloyds TSB Agriculture and Bank of Scotland.

“As agricultural banking specialists, we fully understand the implications that the virus could have on the cash flow and short-term working capital requirements of livestock farms especially as the lambing and spring calving season progresses. We wish to reassure our customers that we will take a sympathetic and supportive position for all reasonable requests to extend or amend lending facilities from those affected by the virus.

“For those who are affected, we would encourage them to talk to their local Lloyds TSB Agriculture Manager or Bank of Scotland agricultural manager as soon as possible and to keep in contact with them regularly. Our experienced and dedicated agricultural banking managers will work closely with affected customers and will provide tailored support on a case-by-case basis.”
