'Meet the Exporter' events provide growers with market perspective
HGCA is once again collaborating with exporters across the country to deliver a series of events that aim to help growers understand more about the exports market and how this could benefit their business.
Three exporter organisations will work with HGCA to open up their doors to local growers in Angus, Bristol and Lincolnshire, where delegates will gain insight into shipping operations and overseas market requirements. Analysts from AHDB’s Market Intelligence division will also add context with an overview of global grain markets and current price drivers.
Research has found that grain for exports will usually be sourced from around 30 miles of the port but this can often be increased to 70 miles, making more growers eligible to consider growing for the exports market. Currently, there is an overseas demand for milling-quality wheat, with different specifications to the UK milling industry, creating an opportunity for growers beyond traditional feed markets.
The Meet the Exporter events aim to open up conversations between growers and exporters and allow one another to see how they can work together to add value across the supply chain. A survey completed by HGCA has found that 66%* of growers feel it is important to know where their grain goes and want to understand more about their supply chain and the requirements that are needed to ensure grain is suitable for export.
Sarah Mann, HGCA Exports Manager said: “This is the fourth year of running the events, and each year they gain great feedback from growers wanting to know more about exporting their grain and understanding the work that we do. We’re excited to work jointly with the trade to help open up conversations between the exporters and growers.”
Meet the Exporter events:
