Wales' former deputy minister for agriculture Alun Davies has been promoted to Minister for natural resources and food in a surprise reshuffle of the Labour government's cabinet.

Following his promotion in the reshuffle, which the Labour party announced on Thursday (14th March), Mr Davies said he will still serve as minister for agriculture, but will take on the former environment minister's responsibilities as well as his own.

Former environment minister John Griffiths has been moved to culture and sport.

Environment group WWF Cymru welcomed the shuffle, stating Mr Davies has a strong "track record of supporting the environment." Mr Davies said he was "delighted" at his appointment and added that he is "Looking forward to the new challenge."
