Following an announcement that nematode treatment Vydate 10g has not been re-authorised and as of 1 January this year it is no longer approved for use in the UK, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board has applied for emergency approval to provide limited use of the product for the 2021 growing season.

AHDB received the following communication from Corteva.

‘It is with great disappointment that I have to advise you that the UK application for re-authorisation of Vydate 10G for use in 2021 has not been successful, despite our best efforts over recent months.

Corteva AgriscienceTM received a communication from CRD late on 24th December to inform us that Vydate® 10G has not been re-authorised for sale, distribution and use in the UK beyond 31st December 2020.

CRD have granted an amendment to allow the disposal and storage of Vydate 10G until the 28th February 2021. We are currently seeking clarification from CRD with regards to the implementation of the return and disposal plans.

Following consultation with stakeholders AHDB submitted requests for emergency approvals for those Vydate uses where growers lack alternative pest control options i.e.

  • Carrots and parsnips (Free-living nematodes)
  • Bulb onions, garlic and shallots for the control of stem and bulb eelworm (Ditylenchus dipsaci).
  • Potato (Free Living Nematodes)
  • Potato (short-season set-skin potatoes for the control of potato cyst nematodes)

It is hoped these applications will go to the January ECP meeting.
