Agricultural manufacturer locks in 25-year energy savings through a zero-cost solar deal
Zero upfront cost project set to save manufacturer £400,000 on energy bills
Two Blues Solar (TBS), a renewable energy provider that funds 100% of the solar installation cost for businesses, announces the completion of a 165 kWp system at ForFarmers' Newcastle-under-Lyme site. The fully funded project included roof repairs and was completed in just eight weeks, enabling immediate energy cost savings for this leading European livestock feed provider.
The 388 panels will generate c. 146,000 kWh of clean energy annually, with projected savings of c. £6,500* in the first year and £400,000+ over the system's lifetime. With close to 100% of the power consumed on-site, the system will reduce carbon emissions by 33 tonnes per year—equivalent to powering 21 average UK households annually—helping ForFarmers advance its commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by one-third by 2030.
Operating under a Power Purchase Agreement model, Two Blues Solar covers all project costs, while selling energy to ForFarmers at a fixed, below market rate for the contract's 25-year lifespan.
"This installation delivers immediate cost benefit while supporting our sustainability goals,"
said Craig Rogers, Regional Operations Manager at ForFarmers. "Two Blues Solar's efficient project management and swift eight-week installation ensured no disruption to our operations. The long-term PPA locks in fixed energy rates, offering certainty over our energy costs and protection against future market volatility."
Working with its partners Photon Energy and North PM, Two Blues Solar managed and funded the full scope of the project, from initial roof repairs and re-sheeting to mounting system installation, solar panel fitting and testing and on-site client training. "We handle everything from design and installation through to ongoing maintenance, allowing businesses like ForFarmers to focus on their core operations," said Daniel Levene, Co-founder of Two Blues Solar. "By looking after the financing and handling of both the roof repairs and the solar installation, we minimise overall project costs and disruption, enabling businesses to quickly benefit from lower energy costs and reduced emissions."
Two Blues Solar specialises in helping companies with high energy demand to reduce costs through solar installations on their unused roof space, land or car parks. The typical cost of a project is upwards of £200,000 – a segment which includes smaller system sizes that are often overlooked by traditional lenders. Through its flexible financing solution, both tenants and owners' benefit: tenants gain immediate energy savings regardless of the lease length, while owners improve their property values and rental proposition.
In May 2024, Two Blues Solar secured further capital to deliver projects totalling 120MW over the next five years, enabling up to 300 more businesses to access clean energy at up to 60% below traditional supplier rates.
