A greener and more prosperous future with new Environmental Improvement Plan
Farming Minister Dame Angela Eagle said:
"This government is committed to backing British farmers. As custodians of much of our nation's land, farmers will play a fundamental role in delivering the goals set out in the Environment Improvement Plan.
"I am absolutely committed to working closely with farmers and landowners to unlock new opportunities and achieve these goals.
"Our announcement of £500 million for Landscape Recovery illustrates this commitment, offering farmers the chance to broaden income streams and attract private finance."
BACKGROUND
- £500m is lifetime costs for first tranche of Landscape Recovery projects signing agreements with us. This will be invested over at least a 20-year period, meaning not all of this will come from the farming budget agreed in this year's Spending Review.
- Annual funding for Landscape Recovery forms part of the government's plans to spend £2.3bn a year through the Farming and Countryside Programme.
- The majority of Landscape Recovery projects propose to continue farming in the project area and are demonstrating how food production and environmental delivery can go hand-in-hand. Landscape Recovery will play a critical role in supporting environmentally sustainable domestic food production.
- Agriculture relies on healthy ecosystems, so this funding for Landscape Recovery is an investment in the future of our food systems.
- As part of the application process, projects were required to consider impacts to food production and have plans to mitigate any negative impacts. More information on farming funding: https://defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2025/06/16/spending-review-2025-a-commitment-to-farming/
