2015 Harvest by numbers - recalculated

Looking at the Harvest Results data in a little more detail and with 70,000ac of data (so far) comparing the same date range for 2014 & 2015 yields are up across the board with oilseed rape being the highest by nearly 9%.

Harvest 2015 has been a little damper than 2014 which is reflected in the average moistures per crop, particularly the earlier harvested barley & oilseed rape.  The Harvest Results adjust for moisture, so this is accounted for in the yield analysis.

Varieties have polarised by 16% which translates as fewer different varieties are being grown.  The same is true for the number of markets showing a decline of 8%.

Comparing the Markets

Wheat

The areas submitted for the respective markets as a percent of the total area submitted per crop show a large increase in group 1 area at the expense of groups 3-4, with group 3 taking the biggest hit.

The barley harvest shows a decline in malting barley by 33%.
