15 of the EU’s 28 member states and four regions are currently implementing GM crop bans, after ten countries informed the commission of their intention to ban the controversial crops, invoking the EU’s ‘compromise’ rules agreed earlier this year, which allow member states to opt out of growing GM crops once they have been passed as safe by the EU Commission.
