Authorities in the canton of Lucerne, where the outbreak is affecting pig farms, have said there is no risk of meat contamination and assured that there is currently no risk the disease could be transferred to humans.

Although in other countries, the pigs would be treated with antibiotics, according to the Swiss Pig Rearing Health Authority, this is not the case in Switzerland.
